Jacarandas and garden patches
Thank heavens, the amazing purple jacaranda trees are blooming! Just when the dearth of Africa becomes too bleak, the lofty jacarandas begin to bloom, lifting our sights and spirits. The short winter season has passed, and with all the electric space heaters put away, the power is more steady. The foliage is turning green again. Even amidst the every-day rubbish and foot traffic, many roadside gardens are planted and thriving. The contrasts of Africa are always stark, making such spots of beauty all the more beautiful.
